General Information: 915 Mountain View Rd, Rapid City, SD 57702 – 15 minutes away from the Hospital
Beds: 52
Minimum Experience: 1 year – Candidates with less than 1.
5 years of experience need manager approval
Accept First-time Traveler: Yes, only if greater than 2 years of experience
Traveler Location: Must live 100 miles away from any *** facility
Permanent Staff Wait Period: 1 full year to return as a traveler
Patient Types: Psychiatric - Child/adolescents ages 5-17 & Adults (Note: Traveler will work with pediatric patients; no dementia, severe autistic, or forensic patients)
Diagnoses Include: Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Adjustment Disorder
No ECT
No forced medication
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:8 with a tech
LPN: 1:8 with a tech
Required Certifications:
RN & LPN: BLS and CPI (preferred to have prior to start but can obtain on assignment)
Required Education:
Completion: Nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
RN: Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Skills Required:
RN: Ability to do a takedown and physical restraint on an agitated patient if necessary, verbal de-escalation, group didactic skills, good communication skills, team nursing approach
LPN: Medication administration, evaluation of care plans, progress documentation, admission screens, minor wound care, EKGs, glucometer, take telephone or verbal orders, acknowledge orders, vital signs, Columbia suicide risk screen, end-of-shift report, log in patient belongings, screenings (except discharge planning – RN)
Support on the Unit:
CNA: Ratio - 1:5-6 Psych techs (not CNAs)
Charge Nurse: One RN team-leader on day/eves per unit; working on getting CRN support overnight
Phlebotomy: Lab comes every day and draws blood; we do stats
IV/VAT Team: No
Resource Nurse: One on nights 2300-0930, recruiting for a second one
RT: No
Hospitalist: No
Charting System/Equipment:
EPIC: Must request approval from CRT if no EPIC experience
Med Dispensing: Omnicell
Floating:
If overstaffed, float techs to the ED or towers
Located off-site of main campus, across town about 15 min away
RN’s/LPN’s could float between (3) floors at this off-site Behavioral Health facility
Could be floated within scope of practice and below
Orientation:
(3) 8-hour days at Behavioral Health
One day I-learn and 2 days Dept.
Scheduling:
Blocked scheduling will NOT be accommodated
Most openings will be posted for variable shifts, meaning no guarantee of nights or days throughout the contract
Weekend rotation: Every other weekend; 12 hours on the weekend and also could be a combo on Fri, Sat, or Sun; Combo shifts are 2 12’s and 2 8’s in a week
Will they be on call?
Could be low census on call depending on acuity.
Holiday Expectations:
Work one major holiday of Thanksgiving or Christmas, get the other one off each year.
Other holidays are first request or as the schedule allows.
2/4 holidays are required.
